What we collect
- An anonymous session ID (a UUID generated in your browser, never linked to your identity).
- The races you chose to consider.
- Your answers to the structured questions and influence sliders.
- Your final slate selections.
- Optional open-ended responses (e.g. “What are your top priorities?”).
- A one-way, daily-rotating hash of your IP address — used only to detect and filter spam or duplicate submissions so our aggregate data stays trustworthy. We never store your actual IP, it cannot be reversed back to one, and it is not linked to your identity.
What we do not collect
- Your name.
- Your email address or phone number (within this main app).
- Your exact home address.
- Login credentials of any kind — there is no login.
How we use the data
Aggregated, anonymous responses help us understand voter priorities, gauge interest in particular races, and improve the matching engine over time. We do not sell personal data, and we do not have personal data to sell.
Optional Google Form
At the end of the flow, you may optionally click through to a Google Form to indicate interest in future polling and civic research. That form is operated separately. If you provide an email there, it is associated only with the form, not with your anonymous app responses.
Storage and retention
Responses are stored in a managed database (currently Supabase) with row-level security that prevents reads of other people’s sessions. We retain anonymous data indefinitely for trend research; if you would like a session removed, contact us using the address below and reference the session ID stored in your browser.
Cookies & local storage
VoteMoCo uses your browser’s localStorage to keep your session ID and in-progress answers between visits. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
